Alternatives Development
An important part of study efforts is the Alternatives Development Process, specifically as it relates to Preliminary Engineering and Design. The Alternatives Development Process is where alternatives are developed and designed with consideration of impacts on cultural, socioeconomic and natural resources.
In developing alternatives for meeting the purpose and need of this project, SHA seeks to strike a balance between meeting a transportation purpose, environmental impacts and community needs. As part of the analysis, questions are asked such as:
- What should an ICC look like?
- Where should an ICC go?
- What other issues should we consider?
- Are the project needs and purpose met?
- What are the effects on environmental resources?
